St. Peter’s Weekly News

December 9, 2015

St. Nicholas Celebration: This Sunday at the 10 a.m. service is a special Children’s service in which we will celebrate St. Nicholas’ Feast Day. Afterwards we will share in a festive fellowship time together.

Women’s Christmas Dinner: This Friday, December 11 at 5:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall.  This is our women’s group annual Christmas event where we share delicious food and enjoy together a fun gift exchange. Come and make some friends and have some laughs!

Mary Pat’s Cookies:  Join us on for this holiday tradition as we make Christmas packages for our homebound members. Please plan to bake a batch of cookies so you can add to the bounty. This year, cookies will be packed on Saturday, December 12, in the church kitchen, starting at 9:30a.m. We will set up cookies and cards for delivery Saturday and Sunday. You may start leaving your donations in the kitchen on Friday, December 11.

Calling All Ushers: The first refresher training will take place immediately following the 10 a.m. service on Sunday. If you are unable to attend this one, a second training is scheduled for January 10. Thanks! Emily+

Guatemala Craft Fair:  Please join us for a Guatemala craft sale after the 10 am service on Sunday.  Come and see the new Christmas gift items we have for sale.

Christmas Pageant Rehearsals: It is that time of year again. We are fast approaching the holidays and it is time for us to begin rehearsing the Christmas Pageant! There are 2 more rehearsals before the Pageant which takes place on Christmas Eve at the 5:00 pm service.

  1. Sunday, December 13 immediately after the 10:00 am service.
  2. Sunday, December 20 immediately after the service will be our Dress Rehearsal.

Adult Forum: Join us in Advent as we visit with the Advent Saints!  We will meet in the Library at 9:00am on Sundays.

Lectionary Bible Study: How deep is love? In our culture, the word can mean a lot or nothing more than a flutter in the brain. The readings tell us about kingdom love, a more complex idea. Bring your observations and questions (and snacks), and join us for a lively discussion around the lectionary texts in the library after the 10 am service.

Photo Board Updates: If you would like to add your photograph to our church member photo board, change your current photo, or update your family photo, we will provide that opportunity on Sunday, December 13th after the 10:00 am service in the church. Children can have their photo taken before Christmas pageant rehearsal begins.

Greening of the Church: Please join members of the Altar Guild next Sunday, December 20th following the 10 a.m. service as we prepare the sanctuary for the solemnities of Christmas.

Pledge cards: If you have not as yet filled out and turned in your 2016 pledge card, please take the time to do so.  Every gift counts! Every pledge makes a difference in the life of our community! You may put your card in the offertory plate or in Patty McDonough’s mailbox.  Extra cards can be obtained by contacting the church office.  Thank you to all who have already made a commitment!

Rector’s Discretionary Fund: Over the past week I have received five phone calls from people who didn’t have enough food for their families. My discretionary fund allows me to respond to the needs of those in our community.  However, because I am receiving so many requests, my fund is lower than usual at this time of year. During the holiday season Patty and I give out many Giant gift cards.  Any donations to this fund would be most appreciated. If you prefer, you could purchase $30-50 gift cards and give them to Patty or me. Thank you for your generosity! Emily+

Offering Envelopes: We now have special offering envelopes available in the office. Each packet includes an offering envelope for birthday, property, music, food cupboard, ECS, Thanksgiving, and Day by Day booklet.   Please stop by and pick up a packet.

Special Opportunities for Worship and Fellowship in Advent

Evening Prayer:  Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5:15 p.m.

This service will take place in the chapel. Come join Emily and your fellow parishioners for this 25 minute service of prayer, Scripture reading, and quiet contemplation.

Taizé Service: Thursday, December 17 at 7:00 p.m.

This is our monthly service which will focus on Advent themes, prayers and meditative singing.

Blue Christmas Service: Sunday, December 20 at 7:00 p.m.

This is a quiet, contemplative candlelight service of prayers, Scripture and music. It allows the opportunity to be in God’s presence for those of us who mourn, or who simply feel a need to await the coming of the Christ Child in contemplation and solemnity. Please join us in this service of quiet reflection, remembrance, comfort and hope.
