St. Peter’s Weekly News
December 30, 2015
Feast of the Epiphany: Please join us as we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany this Sunday. Please note that the Rectory Open House has been cancelled. There will be fellowship following the 10 a.m. service.
Education: This Sunday there will not be education for children during the 10:00 am service. Children are invited to attend worship with their families. The Nursery will be OPEN. There will not be an Adult Forum this Sunday but Larry Sibley will be leading his Lectionary Bible study after the service. All of our regularly scheduled education classes will resume next Sunday, January 10.
Lectionary Bible Study: Camels and kings; wise men and gifts; frightening news for another king and an earthquake in his city. It’s Epiphany time again. What can we learn from these familiar stories? Bring your observations and questions (and snacks), and join us for a lively discussion around the Lectionary texts in the library after the 10 am service.
Flower Delivery: We are looking for a few volunteers to deliver Christmas poinsettias to those who are unable to come to church. If you are available, simply take a poinsettia and a card located on the piano. Many thanks!
Christmas Offering: Each year the Christmas offering is shared between our ministries here at St. Peter’s and selected ministries beyond our walls. This year we will dedicate our offering to Episcopal Migration Ministries (EMM), the organization in our Church that is responding to the refugee crisis in Europe. Special envelopes can be found in the pews or in the church office. The board of the United Thank Offering has presented a challenge to our Church to benefit a special grant of $30,000 for Episcopal Migration Ministries (EMM). Deemed Advent Journey from Gratitude to Hope, the United Thank Offering board is challenging Episcopalians to support refugee welcome in the United States through this Ingathering Challenge.
Please read about it at http://www.episcopalchurch.org/posts/publicaffairs/united-thank-offering-board-presents-december-challenge-benefit-episcopal and about the good work of EMM at http://www.episcopalmigrationministries.org/
Panera Bread: Sunday is our Panera Bread “Bucks for Builders — Yummies for You” day. Help build a better world by supporting St. Peter’s pledge to the U.N. Millennium Development Goals and take home some Panera bread or pastry as a “thank you”!
A Special Thank You: to all Worship Ministers, Pageant Organizers and children, Choir Members, Musicians, Photographers, Altar Guild Members and St. Peter’s Staff for making the Christmas season such a beautiful and joyous one! Emily+
Many thanks! To all of the parents and helpers who made this year’s pageant another success! I am especially thankful for Shannon Godwin, Calvin Haas, Tim Valera and Tim Brown who made it possible for me to be in 5 places at once. I am most thankful for all of the children who were excited to participate this year. I am very sad to miss the pageant but I know you will all be wonderful! Peace, Jess.
2016 Calendars: Please pick up your new calendar on the table outside the chapel.

Poverty Education Series in January: In this season of gifts and blessings, we remember those among us who are so much less fortunate. Please consider attending the next Deanery sponsored event, a four-part series on the complex issues of poverty and homelessness. Offered on four consecutive Sunday evenings, January 10, 17, 24 and 31 from 5:00-6:30 at St Peter’s, the series will be presented by two deacons who have much experience and knowledge to share; the meetings are free and open to the public. One of the many excellent Adult Forum sessions in January is designed to tie into this issue and I hope you will join us on January 10, when our speaker will be Lauren Kormanik from the Interfaith Housing Alliance. Look for the flyer, available at Coffee Hour and feel free to ask me for more information. I hope to see you there. Deacon Pat
Pledge Cards: If you have not as yet filled out and turned in your 2015 pledge card, please take the time to do so. You may put your card in the offertory plate or in our Accounting Warden, Tim Voit’s mailbox. Extra cards can be obtained by contacting the church office. Thank you to all who have already turned in their cards.
2016 Pledge Envelopes: We will provide 2016 pledge envelopes beginning in the new year. There will be envelopes on the table outside the chapel every Sunday. However, if you would like to have a supply at your home feel free to email or phone the office with the number of envelopes you need. I am happy to make a packet for you. Patty.
End of Year Giving: As we come to the end of the year, we ask that you take a look at your pledge commitment for 2015 and if you are able to fulfill it to please do so. For those of you who did not pledge or have already fulfilled your pledge, we invite you to consider giving an end of year donation to our community. Particularly during the Advent and Christmas seasons, we appreciate being a part this faith community and what it means for us and our families. Your gifts help us to continue our ministry, creating a place for all who need to experience the light and love of Christ. Thank you for being part of this community. ~Your Vestry
