St. Peter’s Weekly News

May 18, 2016

Welcome St. Philip’s! St. Peter’s extends a special welcome to you and pray that you will find a warm home here. The Email News is a weekly email that is sent with announcements of upcoming parish events. These announcements will also be in the Sunday leaflet.  Our homebound members receive a copy of the Sunday leaflet so they may stay up to date on church wide events. Information is also communicated through a bi-monthly newsletter that is sent via email and mailed to our members who are homebound or who do not have access to a computer.  Feel free to contact me with any questions, Patty McDonough, Parish Administrator, 215.887.1765.

First Joint Service at 10:00 a.m.: THIS SUNDAY we will gather together as a newly blended community. The choirs will join together in song. The Vestries will be recognized and the new Transition Team will be commissioned. We will celebrate this renewed relationship and begin our journey with prayer and thanksgiving. Please join us on this special occasion!

Lectionary Bible Study: Two widows come home in one of our readings this week. Then we’ll hear that God’s home is among mortals and that Jesus is with us always. How do all these stories fit together? Invite someone from St. Philip-in the-Fields to come with you, bring your questions and stories (and snacks), and join us as we read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest this week’s readings in the library after the 10 am service.

New Wardens Appointed: It is with joy that Melissa Olson has accepted my invitation to serve as our new Rector’s Warden and Betty Hilary has accepted my invitation to serve as our new People’s Warden. I give thanks for their willingness to take on such important leadership roles in the life of our parish community.  Please share with Melissa and Betty your gratitude and begin praying for them! Many thanks, Emily+

Our New Vestry Members: At our respective annual meetings on May 1 Bob Hartung, John Klarman, Amy Neske, Melissa Olson, and Debbie Panebianco were elected to our new joint Vestry.  Please begin praying for them in their ministry among us! Many thanks, Emily+

Thrift & Gift News: The last opportunity to consign is Monday May 23rd from 10 am until 2 pm. We are closed Memorial Day, Monday May 30th. Our summer hours begin Wednesday June 1st: Open 10-3 Wednesdays and 10-2 Saturdays. New items will be added from our storage of donated and consigned items. So please stop in and help us help others. We could use some help in the shop during the summer as well. Call the Shop at 215-576-9323 and leave a message if you’re interested.

Annual Musician’s Party: May 26 at 6:00 p.m. at the rectory. All musicians who helped out this year with any worship service at both parishes are invited to attend. Spouses and partners are welcome as well.

The Key:  The May/June edition of The Key, our newsletter, may be found on the table outside the chapel, in the church office or outside the Thrift & Gift Shop.

With Gratitude: I want to thank the members of St. Peter’s for the wonderful celebration and recognition that was given in my honor at the Children’s Sabbath Service.  It has been a blessing to be a part of this community over the last 5 years.  St. Peter’s has changed my life in many ways and as a result, my ministry and faith have been enriched profoundly.  Thank you for your kindness and the ways you have welcomed me and supported me on my journey.  + Jess Miller

Nametags: Remember your first day at school? When you didn’t know anybody? Now imagine our new friends from St Philip’s beginning their journey with us and how it must feel to not know people yet. Beginning soon, when you pick up your leaflet on Sunday you will also be given a paper nametag. Please use it and let everyone know your name. I’m sure there are St Peter’s regulars who can’t put names to all our faces and if we begin now, it will become a habit that will make life much easier and extend a warm welcome to all our wonderful, expanding family. Thank you so much! Deacon Pat

Parish Directories: Copies of both St. Philip-in-the-Fields & St. Peter’s directories are available on the table outside the chapel.

Property News: The church has approximately 50 metal folding chairs that are available for your personal use. Please see Tim Valera if you are in need of chairs.
