Adult Education: Please join us in the library tonight at 7 pm as we discuss the exciting possibilities for next year’s adult forum sessions. If you are new to St Peter’s, adult forum meets on Sundays at 9am in the library and discussion topics are diverse. We often have guest speakers, sometimes a video or book discussion series and are always looking for participants. This year as a slight change, our topics will be coordinated in blocks, with a general theme per month. We hope for an exciting year of challenging discussion, none of which can happen without your help and wonderful ideas, and we look forward to seeing you July 20. Thanks! Deacon Pat.
Taizé Service: Having stepped onto the Vestry and committing to serve as Rector’s Warden Melissa Olson has stepped down as the Coordinator for our Taizé Prayer services. On July 21, at 7 pm in the church, Melissa and I will lead a conversation on “Taizé at St. Peter’s – Where to from here?” We would like to hear from all Taizé ministers, all who attend these monthly services, and anyone else interested. Please plan to join us. Thanks, Emily+
Thanksgiving in July: During the month of July, the Social Concerns Team is having a food drive to benefit Loaves and Fishes Food Cupboard in Jenkintown, which serves about 100 families each week. Please leave your food items in the Narthex or in the Chapel Hallway in gratitude for our many blessings. Needs include: canned goods (tuna, beans, stews, vegetables, non-sugary fruits and fruit juices, and soups); non-perishables (peanut butter, jelly, cereal, rice, pasta, macaroni & cheese); and clean, gently-used summer clothing for men, women, and children. The food cupboard does not take food after its expiration date. Thank you all for your generosity! Questions? Please contact Carol Boyle.
Looking for New Nursery Caregiver: After five and half years serving as our nursery caregiver, Annie Swafford is stepping down from her position. We give thanks for her wonderful ministry among our youngest members. She provided a safe and caring atmosphere for our children and gave our parents the opportunity to participate in worship. If you’d like to reach out and thank Annie for her faithful service, she can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org. This means we are now looking to hire a part-time nursery caregiver to work Sunday mornings from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. This individual must be at least 18 years old. Background checks will also be required upon hire. If you or anyone you know might be interested, please have them send a resume with references to Emily at email@example.com or Shannon at firstname.lastname@example.org. Our hope is to have someone in place by the fall season. Thanks for your help! Emily & Shannon
Youth Ministry Update: This summer we will have a series of gatherings to begin working together to re-imagine and revitalize our youth program. Parents, youth, vestry members, youth leaders (present and past), any and all interested are invited to attend these gatherings! The next one will take place on Tuesday, August 16 at 7 p.m. in the library. Please join us! As we work to re-imagine our youth program, I have also begun to advertise an Interim Coordinator for Youth Ministry to serve among us during this period of transition to help oversee the Rite 13 and J2A programs including a pilgrimage in the summer of 2017. The full advertisement is below. I need your help to get the word out about this 7 hr a week (mostly Sunday) position. If you know some who loves working with teens and pre-teens and has great organizational skills, please send them my way! Thanks, Emily+
Interim Coordinator for Youth Ministry: Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church, Glenside, is looking for someone to help coordinate and oversee our youth ministries through a period of transition. This 7 hour/week paid position will work with a group of volunteers, the Rector and other parish staff. The ideal candidate will be energetic, organized and able to engage youth (ages 12-18) and their parents in our programs and in our parish life. Experience with youth as well as volunteer coordination is preferred. Please send cover letter and resume to The Very Rev. Emily Richards at email@example.com.
The Blessing of Backpacks: will take place on Sunday, August 14. Please leave your donations of backpacks and school supplies in the large box in the Parish Hall. This year the backpacks and supplies will go to Delta Family Services and Foster Care on Mt. Carmel Avenue (deltafamilyservices.org). Besides backpacks for boys and girls, the children will need 1-inch binders, filler paper, spiral notebooks, composition books, pencils and pens, crayons and colored pencils, index cards, plastic rulers, small dictionaries, glue sticks. Paper and writing/coloring products are especially useful so Delta can replenish the children’s supplies through the year. No scissors please!
