Special Bishop’s Visit: On Saturday, September 10 at 3p.m. Bishop Gutierrez will preside over a festive Eucharist in which we will celebrate the saints of St. Philip’s and St. Peter’s. We will conclude the service with a special consecration of the new Memorial Courtyard space where members of St. Philip’s will be reinterred later in the fall. A special reception will follow the Eucharist and consecration ceremony.  The Vestry and I invite you and your families to participate in this service with our new Bishop as we celebrate the joining together of our two communities. With joyful hope for our future together, Emily+

Thank You: to all who donated backpacks, school supplies, and children’s books to our Blessing of Backpacks collection in August. Our friends at Delta Family Services and Foster Care were delighted with your contributions to the well-being of their clients. Your generous gifts have helped many young people, ranging from pre-school to college age, to return to school this year well equipped for their studies. Thank you!

Rally Day: Come and celebrate the start of a new education year on Sunday, September 11!  The 10:00 a.m. service will be a celebration of our children and youth including a blessing of their backpacks as they begin another school year.  There will be a potluck lunch after the service with hamburgers and hotdogs provided. Please bring a dish to share. We will have a bounce house, games and fun!!

United Thank Offering In-Gathering: Will be held on Sunday, September 11. The United Thank Offering is an organization founded by women to meet compelling human needs and to expand the mission and ministry of the church through monetary grants.  The UTO is a way for each of us to give thanks to God with daily prayers and offerings.  UTO boxes and envelopes will be collected at both services.

Transition Team: Memories!  On September 18th after the 10:00 service, the Transition Team will be hosting a Timeline Project so that we can all reflect on how and when we got here.  Significant dates for St. Philip’s and St. Peter’s will be identified and each member of the congregation will be encouraged to note significant personal dates on the combined timeline.  It is hoped that this exercise will help us to grow closer to each other as we continue our journey together.  Pizza will be provided, so come out and share the fun and fellowship!

Ringing In a New Choir at St. Peter’s: St. Philip’s tradition of handbell ringing, begun in 1987, will continue as Kathy Flaherty regroups and reorganizes the Bell Choir with an infusion of new talent at St. Peter’s. If you are interested in this new musical opportunity, please talk to Kathy, in person, by phone (215)242-2964 or email

Monday Evening Fall Education Series:  Faces of God and the Spirit: What thrills you, what inspires you, what speaks to your truth? Share your favorite quote or other selection with the group, or just come and listen. We are meeting to explore what inspires each of us in our spiritual journeys. Participants may, if they wish, bring quotes from the bible or other literature, pictures, memories or anything that has touched and inspired you.  Please come to one or all of the following Mondays: Sept 19, 26; Oct 10, 17; Nov. 14, 21.  We will meet from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. in the chapel. Each evening will include some readings or other offerings for reflection, followed by Compline.

Education for Ministry (EFM):  Classes are starting in September.  Are you looking to live into your faith more fully, to have faith connect more deeply with everyday life?  Do you ever wonder what God is calling you to do?  What can the Bible teach us about the world today?  If you want to seek answers through study, reflection, and community, EFM – a unique four-year distance learning certificate program in theological education based upon small-group study and practice — may be for you.  If you are interested in more information, please contact Laurel Mosteller and/or Pat Sampson to learn more about this program.

Listening Circle Opportunity:  Our two Listening Circles will resume meeting in September.  Listening Circles offer a place of safety and trust where participants are better able to connect with that place of wisdom and truth within them. We meet monthly to experience and practice deep listening. We learn to ask open honest questions of each other, rather than offering advice. We take time to share some of our personal stories with each other, and we use poems and stories to help guide our conversations as we explore some of the questions that arise about life.  New members are welcome.  Please contact Linda Toia, or Melissa Olson, if you are interested in learning more about this opportunity.
