St. Peter’s Weekly News

October 5, 2016

Schuylkill Center Presents Wildlife of Pennsylvania: On Thursday, October 6th come and enjoy a presentation of live animals from Pennsylvania.  Experience the sights, sounds and even the touch of some of the animals.  The presentation begins at 6 pm sharp, however, there will be a pizza dinner and drinks from 5:00 – 5:45 pm.  A donation of $10 per family, $5 per couple or $2 per person is appreciated.  Contact Shannon Godwin with any questions – shan03tchu@gmail.com.

Adult Forum:  Last Sunday morning, we learned that our worship and the environment are intertwined; both involve everything. Worship is joining the choir of creation, praising God with fog, and trees, and creeping things. This Sunday, with help from Chapter 2 of Ben Stewart’s book, A Watered Garden, we’ll focus on water (everywhere!), and especially the waters of baptism. What is baptismal living? Come, pick up a cup of coffee in the kitchen and join us in the library at 9am for a lively, transformative discussion! Chapter 3 next week: seasons and days; earthly and liturgical.

Lectionary Bible Study: In the collect this week we will “pray that your grace may always precede and follow us.” What clues does this prayer give us about the stories we will hear in the readings from 2 Kings, 2 Timothy, and Luke? Is God checking up on us? Bring your questions, comments, and stories (and snacks), and join us as we read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest this week’s readings in the library after the 10 am service.

Timeline Exercise: If you did not participate in the Timeline exercise last week or want to add some important event, the Timeline will remain up in the parish hall for several more weeks. We want as many memories included from parishioners of all ages from both communities. Thanks, The Transition Team.

Monday Evening Fall Education Series:  Faces of God and the Spirit: What thrills you, what inspires you, what speaks to your truth? Share your favorite quote or other selection with the group, or just come and listen. We are meeting to explore what inspires each of us in our spiritual journeys. Participants may, if they wish, bring quotes from the bible or other literature, pictures, memories or anything that has touched and inspired you.  Please come to one or all of the following Mondays: Oct 10, 17; Nov. 14, 21.  We will meet from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. in the chapel. Each evening will include some readings or other offerings for reflection, followed by Compline.

Transition Team Small Suppers:  Are on October 15th & 22nd! Mark your calendars and sign up on the easel in the Parish Hall. Please consider hosting a potluck dinner of 8 people, or attending one of these events. This is an excellent opportunity to get to know fellow St Phillip’s/St Peter’s family members better, enjoy a great dinner, and bring your favorite dish to share! Talk to any of the Transition Team members with questions

Rummage Time:  Our fall rummage sale is happening in October. Start to gather your donations (packing similar items together will make unpacking and sorting easier!) Bring your donations on Sat, Sun, Mon or Tues 10/15, 16, 17 or 18. Special preview night – the “Friends and Family sale” is Thurs., Oct. 20, 6:30 – 9 pm.  The sale is open to the general public Fri. Oct. 21, 6 – 9 pm. Bag sale is Sat., Oct. 22, 10 am – 3 pm. Clean up at 3 pm.  There are many ways to help   Sign ups on bulletin board in Parish Hall or   NEW — via “sign up genius” on line.  I have current women’s group members but if you are a guy or a member of St. Phillip’s that would like to be added to that electronic sign up list, please shoot me an email, so I can include you.  It will give job descriptions and time slots for you to sign up into.  It will also email you a reminder of your commitments.  Thank you, Kate Boyce yellowkab1@gmaiil.com

Rummage Help Needed:  I am looking for someone who could help move a dresser from a parishioner’s home in Abington (near the library) to the church for the rummage sale. It’s a bit too big for my Prius. It is about 45″ wide and would need to come down from the upstairs, but I can help with that and the stairs are wide and half flights.  If you can help, please contact:  Kate Boyce 215-657-8539 or yellowkab1@gmail.com.  Thanks!
