St. Peter’s Weekly News

May 24, 2017

Memorial Day Remembrances: Within the service on Sunday we will remember all who have died in the service to our country, all who are serving in the military now or who have in the past.  If you would like yourself or a loved one to be named in the service, please send the names to Patty at stpeter654@gmail.com. Thanks! Emily+

Fellowship on Sunday: We will be celebrating Jessie Robson’s 98th birthday. Please bring a dish to share. Coffee and cake will be provided. We will need some help with clean up after fellowship time. Thanks!

Lectionary Bible Study: Until Jesus comes, we are in the world, a world of suffering (as the headlines and TV news remind us constantly). But we are not orphans, “because the spirit of glory, which is the Spirit of God, is resting on you,” as we will hear in the reading from Peter’s letter. Bring your cookies and coffee and join us in the Library after the 10 am service; “so that by the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope.”

Annual Musician’s Party: Thursday, May 25 at 6:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. All musicians who helped out this year with any worship service are invited to attend. Spouses and partners are welcome as well.

Office Closed:  The office will be closed Monday, May 29th in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.

Layette Sunday: Thank you so much for all the wonderful gifts, both handmade and bought, that were given to Nurse Family Partnership.

Pentecost Sunday: One of the great feast days of our church year is Pentecost Sunday, June 4.  On this day we celebrate the moment when those first disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit by wind and flame and empowered to go out into the world to proclaim the Gospel. Often this day is referred to as the birthday of the church.  There are many great traditions associated with this day.  One is that we participate in the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, welcoming our youngest into God’s household. Another tradition is that the sanctuary is decorated with the color of red symbolizing the flames of the Holy Spirit. To get into the spirit of things, parishioners show up to church wearing red as well. Please come wearing your best red dress, red tie, or red shirt!

St. Peter’s 10th Annual Golf Outing: will be held sometime on June 10th at the Neshaminy Valley Golf Course located at 44 Almshouse Rd., Jamison, PA 18929. If you missed last year’s outing, this is your opportunity to join church members and guests for a day of fun. The format will be a 4-person scramble, so golfers of all experience levels are welcomed. There will be a pizza party celebrating the winners at the course following the round. More details about this event will follow soon. Any questions, contact Art Lorentz-Burnett.
