St. Peter’s Weekly News

May 31, 2017

Pentecost Sunday: Remember to wear RED this Sunday.  It’s Pentecost-the Birthday of the Church!! There will be a baptism and our annual recognition of our musicians during the service. Please join us for this special celebration.

Panera Bread: This Sunday is our Panera Bread “Bucks for Brains – Yummies for You” day. Stop by the Panera bread table in the Parish Hall.  Make a donation that will be shared between scholarships for the youth of Guatemala and funding for research into the cause and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.  Then, take home some Panera bread or pastry!

Lectionary Bible Study: Tongues of fire yet drinkable; Breath of Jesus with gifts for all. Images of the Spirit of God, resting on you. Who is this mysterious, malleable yet molding Spirit? Bring your cookies and coffee and join us in the Library after the 10 am service; “so that by the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope.”

St. Peter’s 10th Annual Golf Outing: will be held after church THIS SUNDAY at the Neshaminy Valley Golf Course located at 44 Almshouse Rd., Jamison, PA 18929. If you missed last year’s outing, this is your opportunity to join church members and guests for a day of fun. The format will be a 4-person scramble, so golfers of all experience levels are welcomed. There will be a pizza party celebrating the winners at the course following the round. More details about this event will follow soon. Any questions, contact Art Lorentz-Burnett.

Parish Picnic and Outdoor Service: Next Sunday, June 11 is our annual outdoor service and picnic. We’ll meet for worship under the trees at 10 a.m. in Ft. Washington State Park in Flourtown.  What you need to know: we provide the hamburgers, hotdogs, veggie burgers, rolls, and beverages. You bring side dishes, salads, snacks and desserts; also your softball glove or favorite outdoor game to share. The park provides picnic tables; you might want to bring your favorite outdoor chairs or blankets to sit on. This is a fun day for the whole family to share. Feel free to invite friends, too.

If you cannot join us at the parish picnic and outdoor service at Ft. Washington State Park, there will be a Morning Prayer service held in the church at 10 a.m.

In case of rain on Sunday morning, we will have the Eucharist service at the church and a fun, indoor picnic in the parish hall afterwards.

Honoring Graduates: We will be honoring graduates of all ages at the annual picnic on Sunday. Please send his/her name and school to Emily at stpeter654rector@gmail.com so that they can be included and congratulated for their achievements.

St. Philip’s Visioning Meeting: On Thursday, June 8 at 6p.m. we will hold a meeting at St. Philip-in-the-Felds to further discuss the future use of the buildings.  Canon Walmsley and other members of the Diocesan staff will be present to hear our ideas. A pizza dinner will be provided.  All are welcome to join this conversation. Thanks, Emily+

Newsletter Deadline:  Please send articles for the July/August issue of The Key to Erin Pugh by June 9th at keyeditor@comcast.net.

Food Locker Update: As you have noticed, we have begun a small bookshelf food locker to the upper hallway entrance (where you enter for the offices or Thrift Store) and it is in constant use. Thank you so much to everyone who has brought food to help keep it stocked. To that end, our Social Concerns committee has agreed that the food collected on the third Sunday of each month will supply our shelves rather than a community food locker; we are grateful for the decision to balance our needs with those of the greater community. Thank you again for your continued support of this very needed service! Deacon Pat
