St. Peter’s Weekly News

July 19, 2017

July hunger awareness: Please consider educating yourself about the current famine in East Africa… it is severe and under reported. Your prayers are needed. Followed by your actions to help the people in this area of Africa, if you are able, with donations to organizations like UNICEF, https://www.unicefusa.org/mission/emergencies/food-crises/horn-africa-famine or Oxfam, https://www.oxfam.org/en/emergencies/famine-and-hunger-crisis

Food Cupboard Update: As you have noticed, we have begun a small bookshelf food cupboard  to the upper hallway entrance (where you enter for the offices or Thrift Store) and it is in constant use. Thank you to everyone who has brought food to help keep it stocked. To that end, our Social Concerns committee has agreed that the food collected on the third Sunday of each month will supply our shelves rather than a community food cupboard; we are grateful for the decision to balance our needs with those of the greater community. Thank you again for your continued support of this very needed service! Deacon Pat

The Key:  The July/August edition of The Key may be found on the table outside the chapel, in the church office or outside the Thrift & Gift Shop.

Newsletter Deadline: Please send articles for the September/October issue of The Key to Erin Pugh by August 4th at keyeditor@comcast.net.

Summer Fellowship: continues through September 3d. We invite you to bring a dish to share (snacks, sweets, veggies and dip, etc.) Lemonade will be provided. We will need volunteers to help with clean up after each fellowship. A sign-up sheet is posted in the kitchen.  Thanks for your help! Eileen Dooley & all fellowship hosts.

Summer Schedule June 18-Sept. 3: We will continue our 10 a.m. service throughout the summer with lemonade hour after the service in the parish hall. We will have no education for children & adults and there will be no nursery care.

Summer Storytellers: is available during the 10 AM service for our children. Readers are needed for this fun activity. You are welcome to bring your own, favorite stories to share or choose from the books in the Library.  Please sign up on the education bulletin board. Thanks, Shannon

Office Notes: The office is closed every Friday. Patty does not work on Fridays. Emily works from home that day and can be reached on her cell. Thank you!

Thrift Shop: Christmas in July at the shop all month long! Shop now for decorations, Christmas themed gifts & Christmas storage items.

Property Committee:  I am looking for volunteers to form a Property Committee. The mission and requirements of those on the property committee is to attend biannual meetings the fall and spring; assist in guiding property decisions for better growth and maintenance of St. Peters church; and assist in securing contractors to provide quotes for work needed. You will not be asked to perform tasks, unless you expressly volunteer to do such tasks. The primary objective of the Property Committee will be to meet and help to preserve St. Peter’s property for future use. If this sounds like something you would like to be involved in please email me at stpeter654property@gmail.com and I will include you when our meeting date has been decided. Thank You, Your Property Chair Roy Gibson.

Remembering Our Friend:  Mary Harrison, a former member of St. Peter’s, having moved to North Carolina in 2007 died peacefully on June 22. She had been a faithful member of the choir and Director of the Church Summer Program for many years. A Memorial Service will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina on July 22.  In the fall the family will return here for an interment service for Mary and her husband Van at Laurel Cemetery. All St. Peter’s members will be invited to attend this service. Mary requested that all Memorial donations be given to St. Peter’s. You may send condolences to her daughter Ginny Hartley, 102 Woodhue Lane, Cary, N.C. 27518.  Her obituary can be found at this link: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/name/mary-harrison-obituary?pid=1000000185932925&view=guestbook  Please keep Mary’s family in your prayers. Rest eternal, grant to  Mary, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon her. May her  soul  and the souls of all the departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.
