Dear St. Peter’s Family,

I am delighted to share the news with you that Kim Leach will be serving as our new Director of Children’s and Youth Ministries (DCYM) beginning Sunday, July 23. Kim comes to us from St. Paul’s Church in Chestnut Hill where she has been a long-time member, actively involved in children’s and youth ministries. With this position, Kim is turning a lifelong love of learning and serving as a volunteer in the church into a vocation. Below is a brief bio which will tell you more about her journey which led her to us.

Kim will be working twenty hours a week with office hours on Tuesdays. Her church email is stpeter654dcym@gmail.com. She will split her Sunday mornings between us and St. Paul’s where she will continue to worship with her teenage daughter and husband.

Her main duties as DCYM will include:

  • Overseeing evening fellowship, worship, and service programming for children and youth,
  • Coordinating and leading future pilgrimage/mission trips for youth and adults,
  • Communicating with the parish about children’s and youth ministry, and
  • Creating a team of volunteers who are supported, trained and recognized.

Shannon will continue her ministry among us focusing on Sunday morning programs for our children and family events. And Pat will continue to oversee Sunday Adult Forums. I believe all three will make a great team together.

I want to take this opportunity to thank Stephanie Gill, Melissa Guillotin, Sebastien Guillotin, Rich Lauer, Laurel Mosteller, and Melissa Olson who assisted me in the hiring process.

I look forward to welcoming Kim into our community and beginning this new chapter of our shared ministry with her.

With joy & gratitude, Emily+

Kim’s Bio

Kim Leach was born in Philadelphia and began her education at a private Christian day school before graduating from the Philadelphia public schools. She holds an A.B. in English from Franklin and Marshall College and a J.D. from Temple University Law School. She also holds an Education for Ministry certificate received from the theological education by extension program of Sewanee, The University of the South.

After working for over twenty years for the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania, Kim is now delighted to be part of the St. Peter’s Church family as the Director of Children’s and Youth Ministries. She brings with her over a decade of experience teaching children and youth, including Godly Play, Rite 13 and J2A, at St. Martin-in-the-Fields Church and St. Paul’s Church, both located in the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia. Kim has also volunteered at St. Paul’s Church, Chestnut Hill, in various ways, including being a lay chalice bearer, serving on the Parish Profile Committee, and being a member of the Hospitality Committee, which helps to build community through the sharing of food and conversation after church services.

Kim was baptized in the Methodist church but confirmed in the Episcopal Church by then Bishop Bartlett. A lifelong learner, Kim has always loved being both in school and in church, finding more positive memories in these spaces than she could count along the way. Even so, Kim still remembers the disapproval she earned for being the only youngster in her elementary day school class to draw The Red Sea red. Learning as an adult that there is a type of algae in the Sea that contributes to its periodic reddish-brown cast helped solidify for Kim that, often times, the student is the teacher if only the teacher is paying attention.

In her spare time, Kim enjoys reading both fiction and non-fiction, including the works of C.S. Lewis, Frederick Buechner, and Elaine Pagels, among many others; finding and walking church labyrinths (both indoor and outdoor); traveling; and spending time with her family, including her fabulous daughter, husband, parents and snack-loving dog, and her many wonderful friends, all blessings!!
