While Emily’s Away: I will be away from August 9 – August 15. Deacon Pat will be on-call for all pastoral needs. You can reach her on her cell at 215-262-9335. Many thanks, Emily+
Office Closed: The office will close at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow, August 10th. It will reopen Monday, August 14th at 8:30 a.m.
The Blessing of Backpacks: will take place on THIS Sunday, August 13. Please leave your donations of backpacks and school supplies in the large box located on the ramp between the Parish Hall & Sanctuary. This year the backpacks and supplies will go to Delta Family Services and Foster Care on Mt. Carmel Avenue (deltafamilyservices.org). Besides backpacks for boys and girls, the children will need 1-inch binders, filler paper, spiral notebooks, composition books, pencils and pens, crayons and colored pencils, index cards, plastic rulers, small dictionaries, glue sticks. Paper and writing/coloring products are especially useful so Delta can replenish the children’s supplies through the year. No scissors please!
A Message from our new Director of Children’s & Youth Ministries: Hello! My name is Kim Leach, and I am your new Director of Children’s and Youth Ministries (DCYM). I have previously taught Sunday School at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and St. Martin-in-the-Fields Church, both in Chestnut Hill, and I am now very excited to be among you! My email is firstname.lastname@example.org, and my office hours are on Tuesdays. My bio and brief description of my ministry can be found under the announcements section of the website http://stpetersglenside.org/2017/07/26/welcome-new-staff-member/ Feel free to reach out. I can’t wait to hear from you and to be of service as we begin this journey together.
Listening Circle Opportunity: Our two Listening Circles will resume meeting in September. New members are welcome. Listening Circles offer a place of safety and trust where participants are better able to connect with that place of wisdom and truth within them. We meet monthly to experience and practice deep listening. We learn to ask open honest questions of each other, rather than offering advice. We take time to share some of our personal stories with each other, and we use poems and stories to help guide our conversations as we explore some of the questions that arise about life. Please contact Linda Toia – Linda.email@example.com or Melissa Olson – firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in learning more about this opportunity.
Adult Forum Summer Reading: I hope everyone is having a relaxing summer, filled with enough spare time to pick up a book. Looking for reading material suggestions? Of course, I’d be happy to help! After you’ve read I Let You Go by Claire Macintosh (British police procedural with a twist) and Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, you may want to prepare for Adult Forum! In November I will devote two weeks to discussing Brian McLaren’s new book, Naked Spirituality; A Life with God in 12 Simple Words. The book is available in paperback, used copies as low as 99 cents on Amazon, and in a Kindle version. We will use the study guide at the back of the book as a starting place for our discussion, but it would help if we all had a sense of the book before we met. So check the library, go to a brick and mortar store or go online and prepare to have book group in November. Enjoy the rest of the summer! Deacon Pat
Summer Fellowship: continues through September 3d. We invite you to bring a dish to share (snacks, sweets, veggies and dip, etc.) Lemonade will be provided. We will need volunteers to help with clean up after each fellowship. A sign-up sheet is posted in the kitchen. Thanks for your help! Eileen Dooley & all fellowship hosts.
Summer Storytellers: is available during the 10 AM service for our children. Readers are needed for this fun activity. You are welcome to bring your own, favorite stories to share or choose from the books in the Library. Please sign up on the education bulletin board. Thanks, Shannon
Day by Day Booklets: Our Day by Day booklets for August, September & October are here, in the tract rack, the office, and a few in the narthex tract rack. This is a devotional booklet that may help you in your own spiritual journey.
Office Notes: The office is closed every Friday. Patty does not work on Fridays. Emily works from home that day and can be reached on her cell. Thank you!
Property Committee: I am looking for volunteers to form a Property Committee. The mission and requirements of those on the property committee is to attend biannual meetings the fall and spring; assist in guiding property decisions for better growth and maintenance of St. Peters church; and assist in securing contractors to provide quotes for work needed. You will not be asked to perform tasks, unless you expressly volunteer to do such tasks. The primary objective of the Property Committee will be to meet and help to preserve St. Peter’s property for future use. If this sounds like something you would like to be involved in please email me at email@example.com and I will include you when our meeting date has been decided. Thank You, Your Property Chair Roy Gibson.
