March 29-April 5, 2015
Palm Sunday: This service will include the blessing of the palms, the dramatic reading of the Passion Gospel and the celebration of Holy Communion. : If the weather is good we will begin the procession for the 10 a.m. service on the front lawn. Otherwise, we will begin at the back entrance.
Monday through Wednesday: 5:15 p.m. Evening Prayer in the chapel.
Wednesday: 9:30 a.m. Holy Eucharist and Healing Service in the chapel.
Maundy Thursday: 6:30 p.m. service in the parish hall and sanctuary. The first part of the service will include foot washing, the celebration of the Eucharist, and a simple meal. Then we will go into the sanctuary for the stripping of the altar. We will recall Jesus’ last meal with his disciples, his last night in the Garden of Gethsemane, his betrayal, and his arrest.
Garden of Repose: Thursday evening through Friday evening
We are offering the opportunity to experience those last hours of Jesus’ earthy life by creating a Garden of Repose in our chapel. Adorned with flowers and candles the chapel will be open until midnight on Maundy Thursday and from 6 a.m. until after the Tenebrae service on Good Friday. The Garden of Repose is designed to bring us closer to the experience of the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus invited his most trusted disciples to “watch with him and pray.” Please come and pray, light candles, sit in silence and in the beauty of the garden and wait as Jesus had asked his disciples to do with him on his last earthly night.
Noon Community Way of the Cross Walk: We will begin at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and walk to Lighthouse Fellowship United Methodist Church. Along the way we will carry the cross, hear the last seven words of Jesus from Holy Scripture, sing Taizé chants, and pray together.
7:30 p.m. Tenebrae Service: We will contemplate the saving work of Jesus Christ on the cross through Scripture readings, music, prayers, and silence.
Good Friday Offering:
Every year our Good Friday Offering goes to support the ministry of the Church in Jerusalem. If you cannot attend the Good Friday Tenebrae service, but would like to contribute to this offering, please put a designated offering in the offering plate at any of the Holy Week services or place it in Tim Voit’s mailbox. Thank you!
Easter Sunday: 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Easter Services and Easter Egg Hunt
Together we will celebrate our Lord’s resurrection and the hope given to us in this event. This year at the beginning of the service children will be invited to come forward and flower the cross. The choir will lead the congregation in the singing of Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus immediately following the 10 a.m. service. There will also be an Easter Egg Hunt for the children after the 10 a.m. service.
*All children are invited to be in worship to take part in the Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday celebrations. There will not be Godly Play or Children’s Worship but Nursery Care is available for these two Sundays.
