The Guatemala Connection

Since 2003 St. Peter’s Church has maintained a very special relationship with five small congregations in the Northeast area of Guatemala. Linda and Frank Toia visit our companion parishes at least once a year. Members of St. Peter’s who join in these pilgrimages find them to be inspiring and life-changing adventures.

In addition to visits and other forms of communication, the companion relationship involves the following aspects:
• Scholarship Program in which approximately fifty children receive partial scholarships making it possible for their families to keep them in school.
• Medical Emergency Fund provided to the clergy in our companion parishes to use at their discretion to help parishioners who have no medical insurance and serious medical needs.
• Guatemalan Craft sale several times a year which provides income to the St. Peter’s Companion Parish Committee for special needs.
• Regular prayer for one another.
A Scholarship Family
To help with this ministry, just bring an interest in and commitment to building bridges between cultures and a concern for those who live in poverty. Spanish language is a plus but not essential.

We meet about every other month after the 10 a.m. service on Sunday morning.
